Montana, known as “Big Sky Country”, is filled with great open plains, stunning examples of natural beauty, and a wide variety of outdoor activities. All the things that Montana has to offer combine to make the fourth largest state in America a great place to live and look at real estate and homes for sale. Native American culture is alive and well in Montana, and the prairies have been home to tribes such as the Cheyenne, Crow and Blackfeet for hundreds of generations. Today, their rich legacy and historical traditions can be seen on their reservations, where many of the old ways of dress are still followed, old rituals are still performed, and old arts and crafts styles are still faithfully reproduced. The ghost towns, reminders of the rash rush to the West, are open for viewing in Montana, and offer a fascinating look back in time.
Billings, Montana is home to the Moss Mansion Historic House, an excellent example of upper class life of the early twentieth century, and a good case study of the architectural style of Henry Janeway Hardenbergh, who also designed the New York Waldorf-Astoria. This town is also home to the Western Heritage Center, home to more than sixteen thousand archaeological and natural artifacts of the Yellowstone River Valley, and the Yellowstone Art Museum, a great showcase of the artwork of the region. Zoo Montana is a great place to take the kids on a nice day, while Custer National Forest is perfect for the outdoors types. Probably the best thing about Montana is Yellowstone National Park, the world’s first national park and a stunning exhibition of the natural beauty of this state, ranging from Old Faithful and diverse flora and fauna to Yellowstone Lake and the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone River.
