The “other” islands of New York State are quite different from the two more famous islands, Staten and Manhattan that are found in New York City. They are great places to look for real estate and homes for sale. These New York Islands include City, Rikers, Randall’s, Ward’s, Roosevelt, Governors, Ellis, Liberty, and Broad Channel Islands. City Island is home to many yachts, marinas, and great views, while Rikers hosts one of the largest historic penitentiaries in the world. Randall’s and Ward’s Islands are connected by a bridge, and offer such attractions as a five hundred acre island, playgrounds, numerous baseball and soccer fields, and activities in the East and Harlem Rivers. Roosevelt Island is a relatively small community when compared to its surroundings, but still offers high class attractions and views of the New York City skyline. Governors Island also has a great perspective on Manhattan, but adds turn of the century architecture, an old military base, and beautiful parks to the reasons to look for real estate here. On Liberty and Ellis Islands, you can retrace the steps of your ancestors or any of the other twelve million or more immigrants that passed through these two landmark islands, which also boast the Statue of Liberty. In Jamaica Bay, you can find the last of the lesser-known New York Islands, Broad Channel, which boasts the absolutely stunning Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge, which is thousands of acres in size and rich in different habitats and types of wildlife.
